Abstract:
28 letters, most of them are written to George H. Bixby from his mother Margaret Hathaway Bixby, his father Jotham Bixby,
his brother Henry L. Bixby, and his grandfather George W. Hathaway, many sent while George attended boarding school in Oakland.
Others are addressed to George H. Bixby's son George H. Bixby Jr, and to his widow Amelia M. E. Bixby after George Sr.'s death
late in 1922.

Note:
Members of the Bixby family came to California from Maine during the Gold Rush, subsequently operated a sheep ranch near Hollister,
and later bought land which the cities of Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, Bellflower, and Paramount now occupy. The
Bixbys were involved in real estate, banking, staging, and ranching, and played a significant role in the development of the
Los Angeles basin.
